P.C.C. Notes

P.C.C. Notes for January 2008

At the meeting in January a letter was received from Mrs. Glenda Groves, who is retiring in March from her work as Sacristan in church. This work involves looking after altar linen, setting up services, dealing with ordering candles and many other jobs, which Glenda has been doing now for a number of years. She will be missed very much as she is meticulous in her work and indeed will be a hard act to follow. Anyone who feels they could take on some of this work is asked to contact the Rector.

The PCC have all been given copies of the booklet “The Money Revolution”. This is a very interesting two hours reading and would be very useful for those who are reviewing their personal finances, including what proportion they give away.

Canon Clare Edwards, Canon Pastor of Canterbury Cathedral, will be leading the Lent Course this year, beginning on Thursday evening February 14th at 8.00 p.m. in Staplehurst School and continuing every Thursday for five weeks. The subject will be “Dying to Live”.

Next PCC meeting is on - Wednesday March 5th at 8.00pm.

P.C.C. Notes for December 2007

At the November meeting, Churchwarden, Norman Wallis reported that he had received many favourable reports on the chandelier in the south aisle. This chandelier originally came from the church, and was given back by Brian Thompson, after spending the last few years in the Museum at Brattle Farm.

The Gift Day held this year at the beginning of November. has raised £3,000 so far, and this will go towards church expenses.

The cost of the Parish Magazine for the coming year will remain the same as 2007.

The Shepherd's Market will be held in church on Saturday, December 1st.

Also on December 1st, in Canterbury Cathedral, our Rector is organising a Service for World Aids Day. The preacher will be the Archbishop of Canterbury, and one of our organists, Steve Bennett, will be playing the organ. The Service begins at 7.00 p.m.

The P.C.C. passed a resolution to apply for a faculty to commence work on the re-ordering of St. George's Chapel. This will provide a more flexible area for worship and meetings and enable people to have an opportunity for private prayer.

An open meeting of the Deanery Synod will be held in Staplehurst School on Wednesday, November 21st at 7.30 p.m. The subject for discussion will be “How we approach the Lambeth Conference”.

The next meeting of the P.C.C. will be on January 9th, 2008.

P.C.C. Notes for October

With a Gift Day coming in November, it seems a suitable time to report that the P.C.C. have approved of renovations to the Church roof. More repairs are needing to be dealt with; we are trying to deal with the ones that need priority.

The P.C.C. are to explore the use of as much Fair Trade produce as possible. A Fashion Show of Fairly Traded clothes and accessories is to be held next year during Fair Trade Week.

Our Rector is organising a Service for World AIDS Day in the Crypt of Canterbury Cathedral on December 1st at 7.OOpm. The Archbishop will be preaching at this service and one of our organists, Steve Bennett, will be playing the organ, together with a soloist from Dulwich Prep School.

The next P.C.C. Meeting is on Wednesday, November 7th at 8.00p.m. in the Primary School Meeting Room.

PCC Notes from the meeting on July 25th

Steve Bennett, one of our organists, thanked the PCC for the support and prayers he had received before, and after being accepted for Ordination Training in July.

The Summer Fete, held in the gardens of Minton House was very successful and made a profit of nearly £1,700.

Following on from the well-attended Bereavement Course held in Sissinghurst for parishes in the Deanery, a course for Healing and Wholeness, which will be held in Marden, is to take place in November. The Course Leader will be the Rev. Amanda Evans.

Kevin Fulcher is to explore training to become a Lay Reader, now called “Preaching and Teaching Ministry”.

The Social Committee reported that the “Donations for Dining”, started in May, was proving very popular. More such events have been arranged, the list is on the book on the chest at the back of the Church. Cream Teas in church are also popular; I can recommend the scones and cream! Forthcoming events include a Barbeque on September 2nd, a trip to Le Touquet on September 22nd, Harvest Supper on Saturday October 6th, and an Auction of Promises on October 13th, to be held in the Primary School Hall.

The Buildings and Grounds Committee put forward a proposal for replacing the lighting in the Church, based on chandeliers, including replicas, to be made by local craftsmen, of the gasoliers which were in the Church until the early 1950's. Quotations have been obtained for repairs to the Church roof and Tower stonework. Also drawings and costings are being prepared for the Chapel re-ordering and disabled facilities at the Parish Rooms, including an external access ramp and work to the toilets.

The Deanery Service this year is to be held in our church, followed by a Bring and Share Lunch. This will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 10.00a.m.
