The Institution and Induction of our new Rector.

The Reverend Canon Gill Calver was instituted and inducted as Rector of Staplehurst on Wednesday 28th August 2002.

The Church was packed for the 7.30 p.m. service, including many visitors from Gill's previous parishes of Alkham with Capel-le-Ferne and Hougham.

The Reverend Dr. Andrew Macintosh was in attendance as Dean of Saint John's College Cambridge, our Patrons.

The Chairman of the Parish Council, Robin Oakley was present, as were the heads of many local organisations who welcomed Gillian to the Village and Parish.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverend Stephen Venner, preached about the importance of making the Church a welcoming place, which he was sure would happen as both Gill and the Parish had a good foundation to work on.

The choir sang the anthem, “All Things Bright and Beautiful” (Rutter).

Refreshments where enjoyed by all with a great feeling of fellowship.

Many visitors from Gill's previous parishes said that we were lucky to have her as our new Priest, words echoed by many when Brian Barnes left Staplehurst for his new ministry in Hythe.
