Bell Ringing at All Saints Church Staplehurst Ringing Report - March 2008We have recently welcomed two new ringers, Jenny and Hazel, to our band and have put on an extra practice for them and for some of our other less experienced ringers every Friday evening. You won't hear the bells ringing, however, as the clappers on the bells are tied and the sound produced by a simulator inside the ringing room. In this way ringers can be trained without disturbing the neighbours' More about our ringing simulator in a future issue.If you would like to learn to ring please contact Tower Captain Sue Bassett on 01580 891917 for more information, or just come along to one of our Tuesday evening practices at 7.30pm and see what it's all about. In case anyone is wondering, I must stress that there is absolutely no requirement for ringers to attend the church services that they ring for. Easter is nearly upon us and, as usual, we will not be practising during Holy Week. That apart we will be practising on Tuesdays and ringing for Sunday services as usual. Staplehurst Bell Ringers win £1000 national prize!The ringers have won a £1000 in a competition organised by Wells, the brewers of “Bombardier”, which features the St. George's flag prominently on its label. The prize was for toasting St. George's Day in the most unlikely circumstances and place, and we thought that up amongst the bells was a pretty unusual place to be.For the full story read Kevin Fulcher's report.
